What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is a long-term condition that occurs when the lymphatic system is unable to drain fluid effectively, causing a build-up of protein-rich fluid within the tissues. This most commonly affects the arms or legs, although it can occur in other areas of the body. Symptoms may include swelling, feelings of heaviness or tightness, discomfort, reduced flexibility and changes in the skin. While lymphoedema cannot currently be cured, it can often be managed effectively with the right treatment and ongoing self-management.

As part of your treatment programme, we offer TECAR therapy using the WinbackÂŽ system. This gentle, non-invasive radiofrequency treatment is used alongside a comprehensive assessment and personalised treatment plan. TECAR therapy may help support lymphatic drainage, improve tissue mobility, reduce feelings of heaviness and tightness, and enhance comfort, making everyday activities easier and more manageable.

Every treatment programme is tailored to your individual presentation and may include education, exercise, movement advice and TECAR therapy where appropriate. Our aim is not only to help manage your symptoms, but also to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to maintain your progress over the long term.
